When it is useful

Your organisation has potential opportunities but no agreed investment priorities, or it needs to challenge the assumptions and evidence behind an emerging portfolio.

How the work progresses

1. Validate the problem and readiness evidence on which the work depends.
2. Frame a bounded set of opportunities within meaningful themes.
3. Develop a distinct value hypothesis for each material opportunity.
4. Compare the opportunities and examine portfolio dependencies and sequencing.
5. Present recommendations and record authorised executive decisions.

What you take away

A validated starting position, an opportunity and value-hypothesis register, a portfolio comparison and sequencing view, and an executive decision pack. Each recommendation sets out the rationale, uncertainty, conditions, owners and evidence required next.

Typical duration and your involvement

4–6 weeks, with the sponsor, opportunity owners and relevant finance, technology and risk participants. We use credible readiness work already available; a separate Readiness & Direction Sprint is not automatically required. Material gaps may need remediation or an agreed change in scope.

What happens next

Each opportunity may be recommended for design investment, a bounded test, remediation, deferral or rejection. Expected value is a hypothesis to test, not a guaranteed return or audited business case.

The implementation boundary

Investment recommendations do not themselves authorise procurement or deployment. Design and implementation require their own scope, evidence and institutional approval.
